I thought I would start things off by giving you a behind the scenes look on the "why" of Cafe Notes + Company.
September 2015—I resigned from an executive position at a graphic design studio with no actionable plan of what to do next, only “dream big” ideas. For a list-making, slightly OCD woman this was a leap. But leaving the comforts of a steady paycheck was a necessary risk because, to put it bluntly, I was slipping. More glasses of wine than necessary throughout the week, compromising my work ethic to “get the job done,” moving my husband, family and friends to third place behind my job and myself, persistent and deep-rooted anger that would come out at various inopportune times and, for the first time in my life, prioritizing money over happiness.
Thus CN+CO started as a freedom passion project.
- Freedom from the 9-5 grind
- Freedom from the annoyances and grievances of working for someone else
- Freedom to create again—to use my hands and talents and words
- Freedom to connect with a community in a way that makes me passionately happy
- Freedom to live a life that cultivates gratitude
- Freedom to make products that inspire, delight and comfort
In all honesty, it also started because sometimes I like to work under four blankets on the couch and not put makeup on. I like to grocery shop at 2:30 in the afternoon or take a Wednesday off to spend the day with my mom and photograph flowers. These are the sometimes inane, and in other instances important, reasons I decided to open Cafe Notes + Company—to find the balance of happiness and productivity.
Through my blog, newsletters and products I want to connect with you.
To the person
...who believes in the power of the written word
...who appreciates the slower, unplugged side of life
...who thrives on creative, one of a kind connections
...who wants to send a piece of mail that says what they actually want to say
...who cares to make their Grandma happy by remembering her birthday in a way she appreciates (because your Grandma won’t shed a tear over a Facebook shout-out)
Thank you for letting me share the story behind this business of mine. I’m excited and thrilled to be doing what I do. Send me a note if you want to connect, have questions or just feel like getting your write on!
